Note: The DE-LEC part of this class requires (6:00 p.m.- 7:30 p.m. of online instruction. Note: The DE-LEC part of this class requires 3.1 hours per week of online instruction.
Note: This is an online synchronous class with no on-campus meetings. Participation in this class requires the student to log in and be present for lecture (via zoom) on Tuesdays from (6:00 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.) In addition, students will be required to complete online instructional content via Canvas. On the first day of class students must log into Canvas to access this course and receive initial information from the instructor (typically located on the announcement page of the course). Students should log on to Canvas Prior to the first day of class to access the presentation schedule. Attendance in the zoom meetings is part of the overall grade in the class. The zoom meetings are recorded and posted for you to view later, but you will lose the attendance points by not attending in person.
Course Description
This introductory course examines the major physical, psychosocial, and cognitive/language developmental milestones for children, both typical and atypical, from conception through adolescence. There is an emphasis on interactions between maturational processes and environmental factors. While studying developmental theory and investigative research methodologies, students will observe children, evaluate individual differences and analyze characteristics of development at various stages.

The mission of the Child Development Department (CDD) is to provide quality education in the field of child development to support a diverse community of learners. We educate students that childhood is appreciated as a unique and valuable stage of the human life cycle. The CDD believes that it is our responsibility to advocate for children, their families, their caregivers and their teachers who have a common interest in each child’s well-being. We also acknowledge a primary responsibility to bring about communication, cooperation and collaboration between the home and child development programs in ways that enhance each child’s development and to ensure that care and education are in high quality settings that are safe, healthy, nurturing and responsive for each child. The CDD is committed to providing programs that respect and support families, caregivers and teachers in their primary task of nurturing and educating children. This is where you need to go. This is where you begin the class. All of the required links to the MacMillan eBook (i.e. chapter readings assigned), Chapter Introduction videos, PowerPoint files; links to video activities assigned, links to Achieve assignments, Chapter Quizzes, and Developing Lives 2.0 Activity are embedded within each of the Modules (Week 1 through Week 12).
The "Modules" tab is also located on the menu bar to your left. Click on the "modules' link, to find each Weekly Module Assignments (Modules Week 1- Week 17) and due dates for each of the assignments which include Discussion Board Assignments, Achieve Activities and Chapter Tests, Written Paper Assignments and the Final.
These dates are set up for students to work on assignments, discussion boards, etc., together every Wednesday during the entire class from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.

I am here to help you learn about child development and how important it is for our society. Our future depends on how we raise our children. My heritage is Thai and this video is an example of the Thai tradition of helping each other, which we will do in this class. This young man overcame a lot, so keep that in mind as you try to reach your goals.
