Attendance/Course Inactivity Drop:
- Attendance for this course is mandatory.
- This is an in-person class and so, students must attend the entire duration of the class session as scheduled.
- Students are permitted to have TWO (2) unexcused absences for the semester. Students will be dropped by the instructor on the 3rd unexcused absence.
- Students have one week to produce verifiable documentation (signed by an authority) of a medical or legal emergency for an absence to be excused.
- It is the student’s responsibility to drop/withdraw from the course if they no longer intend to participate in the course to avoid the risk of receiving a grade of “F” in the course.
Grading Policy
- Keep track of your grade through the Grades tab in Canvas.
- There will be no rounding up of any grades.
- Grade Scale: 90% A, 80% B, 70% C, 60% D, 50% F
Assignment Policies: Late Assignments/Make-Ups/Canvas Submissions/Rubrics
- Participation, Exams, Papers, and Presentations CANNOT be made up, unless you have a verifiable medical or legal emergency.
- Due Dates: All assignments are due on the due dates, as indicated in Canvas.
- Average Course Time Per Week: Plan on spending a minimum of 4-5 hours for this course per week.
- Assignment Submissions: It is the student's responsibilityto ensure that the assignment/file(s) submitted are whole/entire/viewable, so make sure you test what you have submitted.
- The instructor will not verify each of your submissions. If you can see the assignment as “Submitted” in your Canvas portal, then so can the instructor.
- Video links must be “Unlisted” or “Public” to be viewed by the instructor and/or other students. If the video is marked “Private” when the instructor is attempting to view/grade the assignment, it will be given a score of “0”.
- File formats must be Microsoft or PC compatible. All MAC/iPhone formats need to be submitted in PC/Microsoft formats.
- Cloud-based links to assignment submissions are not allowed other than Youtube.com or Loom.com. Google Docs, Samsung Cloud, or Apple-related cloud systems are not allowed.
- Submissions must be made in the Canvas system; any other means (email, Canvas Inbox, Assignment comments) will not be accepted.
- Please note: Your instructor for this psychology course is NOT your technology resource, so please find someone to help you if you have technological issues with recording, uploading, and posting video links.
- If rubrics are attached to an assignment, the rubric will be used to calculate the final grade of an assignment.
- The student is responsible for ensuring their assignment satisfies all the requirements of BOTH the assignment description, instructions, and the rubric requirements for full credit.
- The instructor will not engage in debates with students about their perception or definition of “fairness” of how the rubrics and point-values are structured. If you have concerns, make them known early in the semester or before you submit the assignment.
- If the student believes the instructor has made an error in grading, after having reviewed the instructor’s rubrical feedback, it is then the student's responsibility to demonstrate that the assignment fulfills all the requirements of the higher grade, as defined by the rubric. There will be no ad hoc gradations in score created if there is only partial satisfaction of the higher grade.
Self-Care and Mental Health
- Self-care can be defined as any activity which makes you “whole” again in times of stress, anxiety, depression, etc.
- Remember to strive for a well-balanced life between work, school, family, and community.

How to do well in Prof. Laurence's class
- I'll read and follow all assignment instructions carefully.
2. I'll read and follow all rubrics attached to the assignments.
3. I'll take note of all "due dates" and "available until dates" for all assignments and will turn assignments in on time, or by the available until date, for partial credit.
4. If I have a medical or legal emergency that prevents me from turning in an assignment on that date, I will gather documentation verifying my emergency before I contact Prof. Laurence for an accommodation or excusal.
5. I understand that no other excuses will be accepted except for medical or legal emergencies.
6. I will not submit assignments using cloud services like "Google Docs" or "Samsung cloud" or other similar cloud file services.
7. For video recording assignments, I will use YouTube, Loom.com, or Canvas Studio, and keep it set to "public" or "unlisted" visibility, and not "private", until Prof. Laurence grades the assignment.
8. I understand that Prof. Laurence is not my technical support, and that I am responsible to seek technical assistance from family, friends, or the college technical helpdesk if I am having Canvas or computer issues. I will take screenshots of any issues I encounter so I can submit an issue ticket to help desk
9. I understand that Prof. Laurence does not have the bandwidth to verify my file or video submissions for my assignments, so I am responsible to ensure my files are viewable, complete, whole, entire, and accessible in the Canvas system.
10. I understand that I am responsible to learn how to do in-text citations and references in APA 7th edition format on my own, and will avoid plagiarizing sources without citation, or if I need to, will seek the guidance and tutoring on APA format from the college writing center or tutoring center.
11. I also understand that Prof. Laurence has provided me all of the APA related resources to submit the assignments with proper APA format, and it is my responsibility to follow that format, without waiting for grading feedback from previous assignments to submit my assignments in proper APA format.
12. I understand that what I submit as my assignments are my original work and are not written by others, by Artificial Intelligence (AI), or plagiarized from online or other sources, without proper APA citation, and that if the plagiarism checker rates my work as high in similarity score, that I will lose points for the assignment and may be reported to the college authorities for a violation of student ethics for plagiarism.
13. If I have questions I will ask via the Canvas Inbox messaging function, and will allow for up to 48 hours for a response from Prof. Laurence.
14. I understand that Prof. Laurence cannot predict my grade performance in the class, and so, cannot guarantee that I am on the path to pass the class at any given moment. I will look at my current grade and see how many points are still available in the class to estimate the likelihood of passing the class.
15. I will use a calendar app or planner to help organize and plan my coursework.
16. I will strive to be organized; life can be hectic, and so, I will try to find the best tools that work for me.
17. I won't wait until the last minute, like the day an assignment is due, or even the day before, to ask questions about an assignment.
18. Self-care is important. No one understands me and my limits better than I do, so I will strive to take good care of myself. I'll take breaks and have my priorities in proper order according to my needs.
