Welcome Message from Professor Bailes (Bayless)
Hi and welcome to our class!
Our class is Monday and Wednesday from 10 to 11:50 in the North Building room 102.
I hope you are looking forward to this semester as much as I am. Together we are going to tackle all of our learning outcomes. My goal is to create a learning environment that is usable, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming, and I am always open to feedback. If you can't find something or would like to see a layout or organizational change please contact me via Canvas Inbox or ask in class. Here are the basics to keep in mind:
- 🌟 Come to class, talk while you are there, complete assignments, and make friends.
- 🥰 Value the experiences and friendships; they outlast grades.
- 😰 If you can't make it to class, miss an assignment, or miss a check-in, use the makeup form within a week.
- 🌈 Be kind and remember your words/actions impact others.
Cheers,
Prof B

About Brandi
Hey friends! I'm Brandi Bailes, and I'm stoked to be on this academic journey with you. As a first-generation college student, former foster youth, and someone who started their academic journey in basic skills, my experiences shape my commitment to inclusivity and transformative teaching methods. Most importantly I know how scary and embarrassing it feels to not know anything. (Where do I park? Where can I get food? How do I drop a class? What are units? What's a councilor? What's a fraction? What's a whole number?) So, don't worry; I won't judge. Feel free to ask anything. I'll help you out however I can.
In addition to my role in the classroom, I have served as Academic Senate President, Union Vice President, Department Chair, Open Educational Resource Lead, Distance Education Lead, and Interim Dean, my teaching style is a special blend of math, theater, art, and music—an extravaganza of learning. And if you're into hiking, running, or conquering obstacle course races, you're in good company. I bring that same adventurous spirit into the classroom.
As we navigate the world of academia together, I'm here to make it super-duper engaging, inclusive, and downright fun. So, get ready for adventure mode! 🏞️🎓✨
Student Support
Technical Help
I am here to help guide the learning process in our class but I do not have the skill set to serve as technical support. If you need tech help, please contact the Help Desk at 909-384-4357 Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm.
You can also use the help link (question mark) on the left-hand menu.
Tutoring
I encourage you to continue working with your peers in the Crafton Hills College tutoring center outside of class.
There is no charge to use the tutoring center. However, you should not think of it as free. Your tuition and taxes help pay for services like tutoring. Since you are already paying for it, you should use it.
Accessibility
If there are aspects of the instruction or design of this course that result in barriers to your inclusion or accurate assessment or achievement, please notify me as soon as possible. Disabled students are also welcome to contact the Student Accessibility Services (SAS) to discuss a range of options for removing barriers in the course, including accommodations.
Mental Health
Stress can wreak havoc on us. Don’t be afraid or ashamed to reach out if you are feeling overwhelmed. The best time to take care of yourself is now. Please use the Every Mind Matters resources for help on or off-campus when you need it.
Sexual Assault Resources
By openly discussing sexual assault resources and encouraging dialogue around this subject, we assist survivors to receive all the services and support they need. If you ever find yourself or another in need of support or guidance, please do not hesitate to reach out to designated SA resources. Sexual assault is an abhorrent act. Let’s stand together in offering empathy, understanding, and services, to those who have been affected. Your well-being matters. We care and are here to help.
