Course Description:
A survey in business providing a multidisciplinary examination of how culture, society, economic systems, legal, international, political, financial institutions, and human behavior interact to affect a business organization’s policy and practices within the U.S. and a global society. Demonstrates how these influences impact the primary areas of business including: organizational structure and design; leadership, human resource management, organized labor practices; marketing; organizational communication; technology; entrepreneurship; legal, accounting, financial practices; the stock and securities market; and therefore affect a business’ ability to achieve its organizational goals.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Compare and contrast the rolls, relationships and effects of small and large businesses on society and the environment.
- Assess local, national and global regulatory and competitive environments and develop operational strategies.
- Compare start-up and growth strategies for management of human, financial and operational resources.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS

- Read through each chapter weekly. The information given in the book will corollate directly with your quizzes and discussion forums.

- After reading the Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the
related checklist found in Modules/Getting Started by end of day Thursday of week 1. This will be worth 5 Points.

- Discussion Board Forums
- During the first week of class, the student is required to provide an introduction of themselves. This will be worth 40 points.
- Each week the student is required to provide a thread of 150–300 words in response to the
provided prompt for each discussion by Saturday end of day the week the assignment is due. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to at least 2 other classmates’ threads in at least 100 words each by the end of class week. The grading will be as follows: The initial response to the chosen question will be scored up to 75 points. The replies will be scored up to 25 points. This allows a total score possible of 100 points. I will be grading these after the week ends and updating the scores based on the timeliness, quality of the answers, the number of words, and responses that are given.
- Quizzes
- There will be 2-3 quizzes given for each week covering the chapters of reading that you are assigned for a total of 17 quizzes. They will be a selection of 5 fill-in-the-blank questions taken from the content of those chapters. They will have a possible score of 15 each.
