Course Syllabus

 

Course Description:

This course provides an overview of the history, theories, skills and knowledge of case management in the public social service settings. Topics include organization structure, funding streams, regulatory issues, job descriptions, skills, personal qualities, evaluation, assessment and referral, employment services, and career paths.


Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Define Case Management
  2. Learn the standards for Case Management.
  3. Understand the historical perspectives of Case Management
  4. Learn the different methods of delivering Case Management
  5. Explain the ethical and legal perspectives
  6. Understand the assessment of Case Management
  7. Examine interview skills and service delivery, and service coordination

Course Content:

 

  • Introduction to case management and how it is defined, information gathering, components and goals.
  • The history and impact of manage care, methods of delivery case management services, roles and responsibilities of a case manager.
  • Confidentiality, working with family issues.
  • Ethical and legal perspectives, working with diverse populations, assessments, and effective interviewing skills.
