Exercise: Understanding Your Ups and Downs

We want you to become more aware of the relationship between what you think about and how well you play.

Since your primary goal is to get totally confident and trust yourself, you first need to get clear on what goes on for you when you are trusting yourself, the you are in the "zone." It also is helpful to examine the thinking that contributed to your worst performances. if you do a good job answering the questions, you'll have a clear target for your mental game as well as an improved understanding of how your thoughts impact your performance.  You might want to write your answers to these in a journal. Recording your thoughts each day is an invaluable aid to your performance.

Write your response to each question as it relates to your best performance in softball on the left side of your paper and your responses as it relates to your worst performance on the right side of your paper.

Why do you play softball?

This is a simple but powerful question. Many players experience problems with the mental aspect of the game when they lose sight of the reason they play the game.

What type of Player do you want to be?

If you are committed to becoming a better softball player, take the time to write out the answers. There's a big difference between players who are just interested in improving and players who are committed.
