You will be working independently through this course and are expected to complete online readings, assignments, quizzes, and discussions. Your final grade will be a combination of the points received for participation in discussion board posts, quizzes, and assignments.
Grading:
Letter Grade Percentage Points
A 100% - 90%
B 89% - 80%
C 79% - 70%
D 69% - 60%
F 59% and below
Discussion Board Posts: A question or link to an internet resource will be posted on the Discussion Board and you will be asked for a response. The posts are guided questions based on articles or course reading that will provide the majority of our “classroom” discussion. You will need to write a thoughtful response to the question. Feel free to include outside references for your answer but be sure to cite if you do.
Video Responses: You will watch online videos during the course. You may be asked to respond to questions and submit those responses as assignments on Canvas. Answer from watching the video—not from Googling the answers.
Quizzes: There will be quizzes during the course. Quizzes will be based on assigned reading and videos and will be available on Canvas.
- There will be no make-up quizzes. If you do not take it in the allotted time, the quiz will not be reset. The only exception is for extreme emergencies and with proper documentation (for example, family death or hospitalization during quiz availability).
- If you begin a quiz after 11 PM on the day it is due I will not reset the quiz if something goes wrong—start your quiz early enough to finish it by the time it is due.
Academic Dishonesty: Cheating constitutes academic dishonesty and in general, will be handled as part of the course grading process. Penalties may range from no credit for the assignment up to and including exclusion and/or an “F” for the course. Depending on the severity, the college will be officially notified. Similarly, plagiarism is not allowed and will be punished in the same manner as cheating. Any plagiarizing, whether it is intentional or unintentional, will receive a “0”. You are responsible for making sure your work is not plagiarized. Oversight on your part will not be accepted as an excuse for plagiarism. Failing to cite published sources is considered plagiarism. Copying and pasting from an online website is plagiarism unless the information is properly cited.
Class Conduct: Disruptive or disrespectful behavior to me or to a fellow student will not be tolerated. I will not tolerate rudeness in emails or in discussion board posts. Please remember to keep your comments respectful, clean and acceptable, as if you were in a traditional face to face classroom.
Note About Computers: Please be aware that a broken computer or the inability to retrieve, produce or submit assignments from a computer will not be accepted as a valid excuse for late work. I advise you to save all your documents to a flash drive, your email, the cloud, or your hard drive. I highly recommend that you submit items earlier than the deadline, waiting until the last minute and having a technical problem will not excuse you from a quiz, project, or paper. If your computer breaks, there are free computers on campus, at your local public library, and you may always rent computer time at your local FedEx/Kinkos store.
Provocative/Offensive Imagery and/or Content Warning: Art reflects the human experience. Sometimes artwork can be provocative, offensive, or obscene to viewers. Keep in mind we may encounter work that challenges your notions of decency or of what ‘art’ is. This is a learning environment, so please keep an open mind.
