Weekly Module overview

This week we review Chapter 6 "The Roman World from 753 BCE to 500 CE." Like last week's review of ancient Greece, the content this week likely contains themes and historical characters you are familiar with. From historical emperors like Augustus Caesar to architectural marvels such as the 50,000 person amphitheater the Colosseum, ancient Rome looms large in popular memory in the western world.

The weekly PowerPoint explores the themes of politics, social stratification, gender and sexuality, and innovation. The textbook looks at the strength of the Roman Legion in securing an empire that grew to encompass roughly 20% of the world's population at its height in the second century AD. It also discusses the complexities of Roman historiography and whether or not the Pax Romana was quite as peaceful as some may have hoped.
