Pitchers Getting to Know Yourself
A big part of successful pitching is knowing yourself. You often hear coaches tell players to "stay within yourself." Everyone agrees that it's important, but what does that mean?
Staying within yourself means doing what you are cable of doing and not trying to do "too much." The key to staying "within yourself" is to know your capabilities, your strengths and weaknesses, and what type of pitcher you are. Only then you are in position to know if you are "within yourself."
If you are not a pitcher, answer these questions into terms of in throwing the ball at different angles or at different positions.
Getting to know yourself a little better by spending a few minutes responding to the following questions.
Hitters Getting to Know Yourself
"Knowing yourself" is one of the keys to having quality at bats. Coaches often tell a player to "stay within yourself." Everyone agrees it's important, but what does it mean? Basically, it means do what you are capable of doing, or don't try to do "too much." The key to staying "within yourself" is knowing what is within your capabilities, what your strengths and weaknesses are, and what type of hitter you are. Only then are you in a position to know if you are within yourself or not.
Building your Routine
As you go through the funnel type in one or two things you'll do at each point that will help funnel you to where you want to be at the plate- focused on the softball. again, the goal is to help you feel and think the way that will help you the most.
As you work through the exercise think about what has worked for you in the past. Keep in mind that some players use a very structured pre-at bat routine with a lot of things to do at particular times, while others are better off with only one or two things to do sometimes before each at-bat.
Fielders Getting to know yourself
The next step in enhancing your performance as a fielder is gaining an understanding of what kind of a fielder you are now. An analysis of your strengths and weaknesses will identify sources of confidence and provide direction to your efforts in practice.
The main purpose of these questions is to help you be aware of the importance of your thoughts. Choose to think good thoughts regardless of what you are feeling. It doesn't guarantee great play, but it gives you your best chance of playing well.
